Asphalt crack filling cuts down the rain that gets into a driveway, parking lot or private road through its cracks. Crack sealing does the same for cracks that open and close as temperatures change. We blow out each crack, clean it and dry it, then pour in hot rubberized material. We work from Clarke County to Mobile and the Gulf Coast, out of our yards in Grove Hill and Robertsdale.
Crack treatment works on pavement that is still sound, and hairline cracks get left alone. Wide cracks, soft or sunken spots and alligator cracking are signs the pavement or base needs repair. Those areas get asphalt repair and patching first. We come out, look at the cracks and give you a written quote.

The federal manual of practice for crack treatment sorts cracks by how much they move. A working crack opens and closes 0.1 inch or more as temperatures change and traffic rolls over it. Most working cracks run across the pavement.
Working cracks get crack sealing. The manual prefers rubber-modified material that sticks to the crack walls and flexes as the crack moves. A good seal keeps out water, plus the sand, stone and dirt that stop a crack from closing.
A nonworking crack moves less than 0.1 inch. Diagonal cracks, most lengthwise cracks and some block cracks fall in this group. They get crack filling, which cuts down the water getting in and supports the pavement beside the crack. With so little movement, a less specialized filler does the job.
The manual's best weather for crack sealing is moderately cool, 45 to 65 degrees, such as spring or fall. A crack then sits near the middle of its range, so the sealant is not stretched or squeezed too far. Crack filling can run year-round, the manual says, often at 35 to 55 degrees when cracks open widest.
Jackson, in Clarke County, averages about 43 nights a year at or below 32 degrees, and Mobile about 20. Rain is the bigger worry here: about 60 inches a year at Jackson and 66 at Mobile. Every open crack lets some of that rain down toward the base under the asphalt. The manual warns that neglected cracks lead to faster cracking and potholes.
Summer heat is the other test. Jackson averages about 67 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter, and Mobile about 65. The manual says hot climates need crack material that will not soften and track under tires in the heat.
A crack is best treated soon after it forms. The manual's advice is to seal new cracks early, before side cracks and broken edges set in. We fill cracks on home driveways, long rural drives and private roads from Clarke County to Baldwin County.
On a parking lot, we plan the work in phases with you. That way a business, church, school or apartment complex can keep using part of the lot. When the lot is due for sealcoating, the crack filling goes in first and the sealer goes over it. Once the sealer cures, the stalls and lanes come back with parking lot striping.
Some pavement is past crack treatment. When cracks cover most of the surface, the manual points to a treatment for the whole surface. For a lot or a drive in that shape, our answer is an overlay of new hot mix.
